The Water Sciences Laboratory is a division of the Nebraska Water Center. Because of this, the lab has a sub-section on the Nebraska Water Center website. For several months, I worked with the laboratory manager closely to better align the website with the needs of the laboratory, and also to develop an internal client portal for users who regularly use the lab. The external website is more new-customer focused and contains more marketing material and general information about the lab.
For this project, a sitemap was originally generated for both the internal and external website based on my understanding of the lab and the lab’s needs. Once the sitemap was established, content was gathered for each of the pages, which included PDF documents that the lab needed to share with its users. The sitemap for the internal website was setup based on the different categories of users and would provide them with information they needed. Contact information was made accessible so that questions could be answered and services could be provided. Finally, the website was finished by adding photography that I had taken within the laboratory.
Like the Nebraska Water Center website, both the internal and external lab website are based on the UNLcms which runs on Drupal. The pages were custom-created to working within the existing provided framework. HTML and CSS, along with JavaScript were used to provide a custom-branded look that matches the branding for the Nebraska Water Center.
